Geoff Urquhart leads a busy life as a choir director, accompanist, organist, teacher, and recitalist. He accompanies and teaches at three Melbourne schools, including Marcellin College and Luther College where he is School Accompanist, and at Yarra Valley Grammar, where he is School Organist.
Geoff has worked extensively in cabaret, with national and international touring (including the Edinburgh Festival). He was resident harpsichord player to the chamber group La Fraternita di Soloisti, with whom he performed two of J S Bach's Brandenburg Concertos for harpsichord. Geoff served for many years as organist to the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic in their annual Messiah and Carol concerts. Since 1999 he has been the Organist and Choir Master of Wesley Church, Melbourne.
Geoff also specialises in German art song and with the award-winning baritone Daniel Carison has performed to acclaim all of the major song cycles of Schubert, Schumann and Brahms. In recent years, Geoff has been heavily involved with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Victoria and has directed several shows with them, most recently a highly successful performance of the 1896 four-voice song cycle In A Persian Garden by Liza Lehmann.
Other appearances in recent months as organist include the Fauré Requiem with the Heidelberg Choral Society, and the Vivaldi Gloria with the Magellan Singers.
Geoff has been Accompanist and Assistant Musical Director of Low Rez since 2010.
